During the Guangdong Asia Game in 2010, in order to facilitate foreign horses to compete in the mainland, Hong Kong, with its experience in organising horse events and strictly enforcing animal and plant quarantine measures over the years, has established the first Conghua animal epidemic area with the cooperation with relevant mainland ministries and the Guangdong Provincial government, with the level recognized by the world.
Since then, Hong Kong and the mainland have maintained close liaison and worked together to optimize and implement a number of regulations on the construction of Conghua without epidemic areas. In the past 20 years, the Hong Kong Jockey Club has been trying to find additional land to build more facilities to assist in the training of horses at Sha Tin Racecourse. Located in Conghua, Guangdong, the new racecourse has achieved a pioneering “one approval, multiple trips” of cross-border horse quarantine and transportation.
Over the past six months or so, the Hong Kong Jockey Club has carried out more than 100 cross-border transport of horses, with a total number of 1600 round trip transportation, which allows the Conghua racecourse to serve as a backup base for the Hong Kong horse racing movement.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Conghua Racecourse, with its world-class facilities, an internationally recognized non-prescribed animal disease zone and a professional working team, has the perfect conditions to support the development of a world-class horse industry in the mainland and will vigorously promote employment and economic development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in the future.
The construction and operation of Conghua Racecourse shows the potential of horse movement development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The outline for the development planning of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area proposes to promote the development of horse sports and related industries and to strengthen cooperation between China and the mainland in the areas of horse, forage feed, veterinary drugs, biological products and other inbound and outbound inspection, quarantine and customs clearance.
